When executed visually, statistics can speak very clearly indeed. Information Is Beautiful has a lot of really well-designed inforgraphics. This one based on the cervical cancer vaccine facts is particularly strong (click to enlarge).

I found this in letteror's Flick photostream, entitled "Andreas Frohloff's nib museum". I love collections and this is no exception.

Imagine the scene: just as you're about to eat, a bean with the face of a puppy appears in your food and dispenses an unusual fact.

This is the world of Mameshiba - there are many more of these videos on their Youtube channel. I have watched them all.

This cake grabbed my attention over on FFFFOUND! I followed the link and it's by Kaitlin over at Whisk Kid - she's written a recipe so you can make this 'Super Epic Rainbow Cake' yourself.

These pears have been grown inside a Buddha-shaped plastic form by a Chinese farmer. I don't think I could bring myself to eat one, they look too good to eat!

These little dudes are known as Momonga, or Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrels. They live in tree holes in forests in Japan. They are awesome.

I absolutely love these 'Top Tips' from those awful real-life story magazines. Mmmm, toothpaste after-dinner mints! There's a warped genius to these things.

I have uploaded my dissertation as a PDF to download - right click and save here. I hugely enjoyed writing it and hope that you find it informative and interesting. It concerns issues of parody and pastiche within the work of the artist Glenn Brown, who could be considered to appropriate the styles of other artists to produce his work (others would be less kind and say that he 'steals' from other artists, yet I do not see it as being that straight forward).

I was captivated by the various interpretations and definitions offered to explain the differences between 'parody' and pastiche' themselves and found it quite difficult to distinguish so clearly between the two.

Well. Enough waffling from me. Feel free to read it at your leisure and let me know your opinions on the subject.

Bricoleurbanism has an interesting article which compares urban layouts. I really like the graphic accompanying image, which conveys the differences really well.

I found this cool cookie monster cupcake which has been popping up all over the place, including various Tumblr pages and FFFFOUND!...but I still can't find out who made it!

There's something very eerie about abandoned theme parks. As Delana on WebUrbanist says, "Some of the most haunting abandonments are those that were once used to entertain and educate - filled with vast once-vibrant gathering and learning spaces."
